Vietnam: Koto HER Turn

KOTO (“Know One, Teach One”) – Shaping Futures, Living Dreams

KOTO opens doors to a brighter future for young people aged 16 – 22 from challenging backgrounds. Many have experienced poverty, marginalization, or even sexual violence. In a two-year, internationally recognized hospitality training program, participants gain not only professional skills but also discover their talents, build self-confidence, and learn lifelong abilities.

The program shows participants that their past does not define them – courage and determination do. Through hands-on training, real community support, and the joy of shared success, they grow beyond their limits and find their place in hotels, restaurants, and society at large.

KOTO Means

creating opportunities, fulfilling dreams, and empowering young people to take their lives into their own hands with pride and confidence.

Her Turn – Vocational Training for Young Women

Since 2022, the “Her Turn” program has focused on young women from ethnic minorities, who are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and marginalization. Each year, 30 participants undergo a comprehensive 12-month hospitality training program. The curriculum includes practical hospitality skills, English lessons, computer courses, and workshops on entrepreneurship and social skills.

The first six months are completed at KOTO in Hanoi, followed by a six-month internship in a 5-star hotel, where participants deepen their knowledge. KOTO then supports them in securing long-term employment in the hospitality industry.

Passing on Knowledge, Transforming Lives

KOTO lives by the motto “Know One, Teach One”: participants share their knowledge, support one another, and demonstrate how mutual help can change lives sustainably, creating opportunities for both individuals and their communities.

A Remarkable Journey: Lien Bien’s Story

Lien Bien, a KOTO graduate, exemplifies the program’s impact. After losing her mother in 1997, she moved with her brother to live with their grandparents. Following her brother’s death, she discovered KOTO – a lifeline that offered a new perspective and eventually led to employment in a top hotel.

“KOTO trained me professionally and personally,” says Lien Bien. “An intensive program in South Korea made me more open and confident. Today, I work in Australia – something I never imagined before.”

She remains closely connected to KOTO, mentoring new trainees and emphasizing the importance of supporting young women from ethnic minorities:

“Women in Vietnam have limited opportunities. KOTO opens pathways to their dreams and a better life.”
